Miami Herald Finalizes Lease

The Miami Herald Media Company (“Miami Herald”) has agreed to terms to relocate to a 158,265 square foot office building in Doral, Florida. The property, which formerly served as the headquarters of U.S. Southern Command, will be renamed One Herald Plaza at Wespointe Business Park. The Miami Herald also completed the purchase of an adjacent six acre site directly to the building’s east, which will house the company’s 119,000 square foot production building.

Growing food producers, distributors moving to add space

Two local producers and distributors of food will relocate their headquarters this year within Miami-Dade County to accommodate their growth. Sugar producer Banah International Group Inc. will consolidate its operations to a 302,000-square-foot industrial building in Hialeah at 215 Se 10th Ave. The building will serve as Banah International’s packaging and distribution center as well as its corporate headquarters. “Banah International’s 11-year deal is valued at over $15 million”, said Jose Juncadella, principal at Fairchild Partners Commercial Real Estate Services, who represented the owner of the facility, San Francisco-based Terreno Realty Corp.

Industrial deals peaked at year end

International promotional products company Bullet Line, a subsidiary of Polyconcept North America, has leased 475,000 square feet of space at Hialeah’s Centergate at Gratigny, closing one of the largest industrial leases in South Florida in several years. The deal is the latest in a series of stellar trades and leases that has pushed Miami-Dade County’s industrial sector into the forefront of the region’s commercial recovery.

Sugar maker Banal signs one of 2011′s biggest leases

Banah International, a sugar producer that plans to hire nearly 300 employees during the next three years, has leased more than 300,000 square feet of space in Hialeah owned by Terreno Realty Corp. The 11-year deal, valued at between $15 million and $20 million, for the facility at 215 SE 10th Ave., is one of the top leases signed in 2011. Jose Juncadella, managing principal of Fairchild Partners, represented Terreno.

Leon Medical Centers buys former Boston Scientific compound

Leon Medical Centers secured a site for a major expansion after purchasing the former Boston scientific manufacturing facility in Doral on Dec. 16. LMC Chairman Benjamin Leon Jr. said the purchase price was $15 million. He is working with architects on a plan to extensively redevelop the building. The deal gives LMC a 364,000 square-foot building on 13.7 acres at 8600 NW 41st St. Holliday Fenoglio Fowler LP led by senior managing director Hermen Rodriguez, director Ike Ojala and associated director Ignacio Portuondo and Miami-based Fairchild Partners represented Boston Scientific in the deal.
